Stopping a hummingbirds wings

A hummingbird flaps it's wing 55 time per second and to photograph them is very difficult.  I have set this goal for myself to see is I could do it and to expand my photography skills.  To start off, I set up a feeder and 2 speedlights.  After sitting for about 30 min. this is what I got.

I was unable to fully stop the wings, but I'm not giving up yet.  I'll be back at it in the spring with more lights and hopefully more knowledge.

Christmas photos

Trying new ideas for Christmas family photos.  First of all, the idea of tying up my boys is very appealing to me.  So, I did it with Christmas lights.  In retrospect there should also be some lights in the background.

Baby Derek

Stephanie and Jon brought Derek by when he was just 6 days old.  From the beginning I could tell they are very caring and devoted parents.  Derek was a easy going baby and loved to sleep (just what I wanted).  They are a lovely family.

This shot is harder to get then you think.  Even though he was sleeping, he did not want anyone to hold his feet still.

How beautiful is this family.  I hope to see them again some day.

Baby Eros

Aimee brought Eros by when he was 10 days old.  All I can say about him is that he was already picking up his head and was TOTALLY aware of his surroundings.  Grandma Dora also joined us for the session.  I had fun photographing this baby.

The only shot I got with his eyes closed.  The boy would NOT go to sleep.  This was just a long blink.

The connection between mother and child is so evident in this photo.

Sophie's Senior Photos

Sophie is an outgoing, fun loving, beautiful young adult.  Her mother contacted me via email and we corresponded that way for a while before the session.  They wanted to wait for the fall leaves to come in and as we all know, mother nature does her own thing.  So, on the day of the shot we met at a park of their choosing and got to work.

We started by the water because that is where Sophie really loves being.  By this time of year the water in Eugene is pretty cold, as she will attest to.  But she was a good sport and suffered through it and we got some great photos.

After doing more photos around the park we decided to go to a train track to get an outfit and scenery change.  It is a challenge doing photos on a train track, especially if it is still in use.  We where there for about 15-20 minutes and two trains came by.  Of course we heard them and got off the tracks in time.  Sophie was once again a good sport about it and we had a laugh.  Nothing like mortal danger with your senior photos. I had fun and I hope they did too.

Molly's Senior Photos

Molly is a very spirited & fun person.  Her mother contacted me to do her Senior photos and we decided to meet in downtown Eugene.

After walking around, we found an alley where a painter was working on his mural.  I loved the colors and the whole concept, so I asked if we could use it as a backdrop for her photos and he was more then happy to accommodate us.  And this is what we got.

It was a lot of fun working with Molly.  She ended up in a tree, by a fountain, in a window sill, and drawing a cat on a wall with chalk.  Thank you for such a fun evening.

Shannon's Senior Photos

For those who may not know, Shannon is my beautiful niece.  I convinced her to let me do her senior photo, or she convinced me I don't remember who did the begging.  But here is the outcome of the sessions

We started at my house doing some photos after work.  After taking some photos in the front and back yard Shannon suggested going to the field behind my house.  Did I tell you she was not just beautiful but smart.  And that is where we got my favorite photo.

A couple days later we went to Portland a did some photos in the Test Rose Garden, Waterfront, and Downtown.  If you have never been to downtown Portland, let me tell you one thing parking is a problem.  We found parking on the street and I used my Blue Car app to pin point the car.  After walking around and taking more photos it was getting dark and I had a guy friend meet us (two girls and camera equipment aren't a good combo in downtown).  We took the MAX around, got some dinner, and decided to head home.  WELL, first of all don't EVER use the Blue Car app to help you find your car.  Long story short it took us an hour or so to find the car.  We passed very close to it several times, but as I always say "All's well that ends well".  Now we can look back at it and laugh.  Right?

After getting a good nights sleep, we went to a local park for just on more shoot.  Nothing exciting or eventful happened here except that Shannon was messing with me and wouldn't stop singing the song "We are never ever getting back together" by Taylor Swift.  Talk about your most annoying/catchy ever, ever, ever.  All in all I had a lot of fun with my niece (I hope she did too).?
